Plots are very scarce as the Council has an agreement with the Observatory to maintain a low level of light pollution. There are limited sources of borehole water and the town can never expand to accommodate many more stands. SALT was COMPLETED on 11 November 2005 and formally opened by President Mbeki. Daily tours are available.
