The farm is about 55 km from Sutherland in the Tanqua Karoo, measuring 3600 ha. The present owner bought it for it's beauty and isolation. They planned to settle additional wildlife on the farm and develop it as a wildlife reserve. They have however had several other plans for properties they own in and around Stellenbosch and find that it is no longer a short term plan, but very long term and that makes it no longer viable for them to pursue.

The previous owners used the farm extensively for winter or summer grazing for their sheep. The property has no power, but there are solar panels installed to drive the submersible pump for all water requirements. There are a few windmills scattered around and some cement dams. The windmills all need maintenance.

There is a Telkom line to the property, but no cell phone reception. There are no power lines. The house is very basic and suited the present’s owner’s needs for the time, but part of their plan was to build a big klip huis closer to the river, the birds and trees as there are many, many klip kraals that have the stones stacked and ready for use.

This is the last farm on this road so there is no through traffic. It lies just south of the Sutherland plateau - resulting in very warm summers, but far milder winters than on the top of the Sutherland plateau.

The average rainfall is between 130 to 150 mm p year, but this year they had well over 200 mm. The veld lies approx 800m above sea level, but as you can see from the photographs the mountains are a lot higher. There is a river which runs for about 8 months of the year and then becomes a stream for a few moths and in the middle of summer (Dec /Jan) -a trickle.

As the farm has many kloofs it is ideal for a fractional ownership type setup as owners will not be able to see one another. The present owner has been asked several times by biologist for permission to visit as we have record amounts of diverse plant-life.

It will be hot in summer in the Karoo. The opposite is also true that is winter it is an enjoyable place to enjoy lots of sunshine and pure air, lovely night skies.
